Given its December release, and the name of the title, we admit, we came into this with expectations that it would be about a pair of kick-ass elves carrying out tactical assignments to help Santa deliver gifts in time all over the world. No such luck, unfortunately, but we’re fine with a pair of superheroines as well.
If you fancy yourself a paragon of justice, intent on saving the innocent, and maybe earning yourself a bit of extra cash along the way, then ActionOps Snow & Sable is the game for you. The game has two special features available for its players – stacked Wilds, which can make a big difference if they land at the right time, and a free spins special features with the first and fifth reel being Wild, and lots of retriggering potential.
Symbols include playing card icons J, Q, K and A, as well as a cool looking watch, a pair of spy glasses, a bug-shaped listening bug, and an awesome looking car. Special symbols include Snow and Sable as Wilds which can pay interchangeably at a slightly lowered cost, and the game’s logo is the Scatter symbol.
Developer
If you haven’t heard of Triple Edge Studios, we wouldn’t be surprised. They’re a relatively new face on the market – an independent studio which agreed to create original content exclusive to Microgaming’s Quickfire platform.
This isn’t the only studio that Microgaming has a publishing agreement with, but considering how recently it started – from February 2018, it’s been quite successful. Wicked Tales: Dark Red, Halloween, Playboy Gold – they’re all successful titles made by Triple Edge, and it shows Microgaming’s trust in them by allowing them to work on popular, recognisable franchises. The studio performed quite well in its first year, and the partnership with Microgaming certainly seems to be helping things along – we’re quite curious where things will end up as 2019 comes around.
How to Play it
The game is played on a 5×3 playing field with 10 fixed paylines, which means gamblers cannot turn some or all paylines off to lower their minimum bet. Instead, they change their wager by adjusting the coin size and coins per line. Triple Edge’s mobile user interface is nearly identical to Microgaming’s own. The differences are minor, and not really worth mentioning – everything is easy to access and cleanly labelled, and the buttons are pushed off to the side as to not hog screen space.
You can bet between $0.10 up to $100 per spin, which is an awesome spread of wagers that should allow every level of gambler to find a bet size they’re comfortable with, and play on it without any trouble. The title has an Autoplay option that allows players to set the number of auto spins that will be played, but not allowing you to set any win or loss limiters, or a single win threshold.
The background image is a static screen of a sprawling city metropolis, which seems to pierce the sky itself. There’s definitely a light sci-fi vibe going on here, with a lot of futuristic technology, though ultimately, the visuals aren’t that amazing. The symbols don’t’ have any animations when part of a winning combination, and the background image is entirely static.

Special Features
Collecting three, four or five Scatters activates ten, fifteen or twenty free spins, as well as a cash prize worth 2x, 10x or 100x the stake, respectively. During free spins, the first and fifth reel are covered in Wilds, which randomly alternate between Snow and Sable. It’s possible to retrigger the bonus by getting two or three Scatters, which grants five or ten more free spins, with no limit on how many times you can win more free spins.
Another feature, which is less flashy, but quite helpful, are stacked Wilds – both the Snow and Sable Wilds appear stacked on all reels, which can be quite helpful in completing winning combinations.
Maximum Payouts
The largest jackpot gamblers can win in ActionOps Snow & Sable is a 1000x the wager, which is an alright score for a high volatility title, but certainly not the best we’ve seen. The RTP for this Microgaming release is 96.03%, which is above average for video slots.
Summary
While this isn’t the best release Triple Edge Studios have given us, it’s still a nice little slot to tide you over if you want something new to play.
The jackpot could be better for the volatility, but the special features were fun to play with, and the graphics could have used a bit more love. The game’s decent, but nothing special.
