Brace yourselves for the launch of Space Invaders slot game, as Playtech joins hands with Taito Corporation to bring arguably the world’s most popular arcade game to top online casinos.
Themed on the incredibly popular arcade game of the same name, created by Tomohiro Nishikado and released in 1978, the Space Invaders slot serves as a sort of a time machine, taking gaming enthusiasts straight to childhood, and giving them the opportunity to secure some nice payouts in the process.
We were impressed to see Playtech staying true to the original title as the game screen of their latest slot looks just like the cabinet that was the original setting for the arcade.
Playtech is without a doubt one of the most famous providers for the online gaming industry, but their latest titles have been hit and miss, so we were glad to see them return in style with Space Invaders.
The company has been working hard in an attempt to keep up with the competition, seriously improving the visual appeal of their products and also introducing some novelty features, so it looks as though they are on the road to return to old glory days.
How to Play It
Space Invaders slot game houses five reels, three rows of symbols and ten fixed paylines. The game is also advertised as containing twenty lines, and this is due to the fact that it pays both left to right and right to left, thus further improving your winning chances.
While we will have no confirmation until the game is actually released, it appears that betting will start at $0.10 per line or $1 per spin, which is not too bad, with + and _ below Line Bet used to select the preferred coin denomination.
Located in the bottom left hand corner is Info button which reveals the Paytable, while Autoplay, Turbo and Spin are located to the far right of the game options panel.
When it comes to game icons appearing on the reels, these include green, blue and pink alien invaders, UFOs, monsters, planets, spaceships and more.
The green laser cannon may not be appearing on the paylines to form winning combinations, but it has a key role to play in most extra features available in Space Invaders. It can randomly shoot invader symbols found directly above to turn them into Wild icons, before pays are awarded, but that is just for starters.
When Red UFO symbol is located above the same reel under which the laser cannon appears, the UFO Wilds feature is triggered. The cannon will shoot at the UFO that in turn haemorrhages Wild icons and places them across the game screen before wins are awarded.
Unfortunately, the game does not appear to offer any second-screen bonus rounds, as we are sure they would have been included in the promotion video otherwise.
We cannot be sure exactly how the game will be paying in the main game and what the maximum payout will be, but chances are that Space Invaders has been designed as a low-volatility slot, where payouts will be frequent, albeit less than impressive.
It is believed that the highest paying icon will award a payout equal to 150x line bet for five-of-a-kind combination, which is not exactly mind-blowing, but Invaders Turn Wild and especially UFO Wilds features should help improve your account balance, with the latter turning up to nine regular icons Wild.
At first glance, it appears that Playtech did a very good job in an attempt to recreate the incredibly popular arcade game and adapt it for casino play, and chances are you will enjoy playing Space Invaders slot almost as much as you loved playing the original arcade.
The game developers resisted temptation to enhance the original graphics and only slightly improved them to ensure the playing experience is as close as possible to the original, so we have no objections there.
It does seem that base line payouts will be less than impressive and with no serious bonus rounds included, that might prove a problem, but we, nonetheless, believe Space Invaders slot will live up to the billing.
