Asian themed games were always a present theme, if not overtly popular. After all, there were plenty of themes to be explored thanks to Chinese history and mythology, and slot developers made use of them. It was all great until the Chinese market opened to those same developers, who were now in a rush to capture pieces of a brand new, gigantic gambling market.
Fortunately, the rush has passed us by, and now, we’re able to enjoy the occasional Chinese themed title without feeling a light tingle of dread. This Big Time Gaming release is set in ancient Chinese times, and gives its gamblers multipliers, special reel mechanics, and a free spins bonus. Symbols on the playing field include 9. 10, J, Q, K and A styled in a more Chinese fashion, as well as waving cats, gold bullions, dragon masks and red money envelopes.
While Big Time Gaming themselves aren’t a household name like some bigger companies, they have some great talent at the helm. The company is a product of three men. Nik Robinson, their CEO, had founded News Corp in 1996 which would later merge with Orbis to become Openbet. Their CTO, Huw McIntosh, has worked in the industry for over a decade as part of New Tech Media and Openbet.
And finally, their creative director, Ian Schmidt, joined the company after parting ways with Rock Star Games, having worked on several of their more elaborate titles. With these three at helm, the company has been steadily growing and making new slots, and even picked up the best iGaming Software Experience award from Casinomeister, the world’s largest iGaming forum. Well, it actually picked it up twice, as both their titles, Bonanza and Danger High voltage ended up in #1 and #2 spots.
How to Play it
The game is played on a 5×3 playing field with 30 flexible paylines, meaning gamblers can turn them on or off to lower their wagers, while also lowering their chances of completing a win. The user interface is rather simplistic and easy to use, very reminiscent of other mobile games, so unless this is your first title, you’ll be able to find your way around easily.
Gamblers can bet between $0.01 up to $27 per spin by adjusting the amount of active paylines and the coin value, something which will please low rollers and casual gamblers, though high rollers might not be pleased at the fact they’re capped at such a small maximum bet. The title has an extensive Autoplay option, in which gamblers can set the amount of spins, whether Autoplay will stop on any win or on bonus wins, as well as having single win thresholds, as well as limits if your balance increases or decreases past a certain level.
The background image is an idyllic lake somewhere in the mountains, as the sun slowly sets, turning the somewhat cloudy sky into a beautiful shade of orange-pink. Beautiful, pink flowers grow on the tree and next to the reels, making for a rather beautiful view while you play. We can only imagine how much more gorgeous it would be if it were animated.
If a fan lands on the second reel, a random multiplier is chosen and becomes part of the winning combination, increasing it. A slight variation to this bonus – if a fan lands on the third reel, the fan will display a random number between 1 and 5.
That number selects the reel, which will then turn into a fully stacked Wild, and grant one re-spin. Collecting three Scatters rewards gamblers with a free spins bonus, where the amount of extra turns you get is determined by three red envelopes that appear after the bonus is triggered. Pick one, which will award how many free spins you get. During free spins, fan symbols are collected. At the end of free spins, the total number of collected fans becomes a multiplier for all your wins from the free spins bonus.
As you might imagine, the free spins bonus can be very lucrative, as a result – and leads to the largest win of the game, which is worth 6000x the wager. Despite this, Goddess of Asia is a low volatility title, and has an RTP of 95.04%, which is average for video slots.
While we may have liked some more up to date graphics for Goddess of Asia, the ones we saw were serviceable, and everything else about the slot is next to perfect in our opinion. Big Time Gaming continues to show their games can pack a punch, and we can’t wait for their next release.
