Dragons are very important figures in Chinese culture, since they symbolise power, luck and nobility, among other things. Chinese emperors were identified as sons of dragons, proving their power in that way.
So it does not come as a surprise the fact that dragons are the most powerful symbols in IGT’s latest release called Dragons Temple. This five-reel slot offers 50 adjustable paylines and a rather high betting range, with the maximum bet being $2,500.
Set on a beautiful landscape covered in blossomed cherry trees, the 2016 release will give gamers a chance to experience the power of five different dragons featuring as expanding Wilds, which may award all of you dragon lovers with some amazing payouts.
What We Love
We are completely sure that Dragons will become everybody’s favourites in the 2016 release, since they give so much to spinners. First of all, they are Wilds in this slot and will substitute for any regular symbol. Second of all, these Wilds are no ordinary Wilds, but expanding Wilds that will fill the entire reel once they form a winning combination.
If you add the fact that they appear pretty often during the base game, and that sometimes you will land more of them in a single spin, you will realise that these majestic creatures are responsible for all lucrative payouts in this IGT product, especially because the Dragon Wild is the highest paying symbol, offering 1,000 coins for five of a kind.
We got as much as three Wild reels in a single spin, and we were more than satisfied with the result. The Free Spins feature, even though hard to trigger, is pretty neat.
Once triggered by three Scatters, it offers three options to spinners, 15 freebies and the central reel as a Wild one, 10 free spins and reels 2 and 4 as Wilds, or 5 free spins and reels 1, 3 and 5 as Wilds. Either way you choose, you are bound to land impressive payouts, especially if you bet big.
What We Do Not Like
We have to admit that there are more than enough video slots themed after Chinese mythology. Too many times we climbed the high mountain to find the hidden temple and discover the long-lost treasures of some mystical oriental creature. Time for some fresh ideas people!
The second thing we did not like about this slot is a mediocre job done in the graphics department. Except the dragons, other symbols look pretty plain, and a leading company like IGT should not settle for plain. Graphics could have used a bit more sharpening, while playing cards symbols could have been replaced with more authentic ones.
The soundtrack is somewhat annoying, especially the part when you land a winning combination. Every winning is followed by a loud squeaky sound that will definitely make you wish you did not win a thing. So think about putting the slot on mute during gameplay.
Arm yourselves with patience, since patience is a virtue in Chinese tradition, and you will need a lot of it while you wait for the Free Spins feature to trigger which happens as rare as possible.
Dragons Temple slot is certainly not the best IGT has to offer. Below-standard graphics, annoying soundtrack and a theme used too many times in the past will definitely not help this IGT product stand out from the crowd.
The betting range is clearly meant for high rollers, so do not expect gamers who like spinning for fun.
With an interesting Free Spins feature that sometimes is too hard to trigger, the 2016 release should rely in the power of their dragons, because they are only capable of attracting spinners, with their expanding nature and the ability to land on the reels on a regular basis during base game.
So if you do not trigger free spins, do not despair, the power of dragons will certainly award you with some rewarding payout in the main game.
